One of India's most iconic civic landmarks, built for the 1975 World Table Tennis Championship under Chief Minister Siddhartha Shankar Ray. J.C. Chakraborty & Sons completed massive land surveys and all structural drawings in just four to five days, and engineered the stadium's innovative pre-cast RCC portal frame system — with specialised American Pine and Mahogany flooring specified to international rebound standards.
The Netaji Indoor Stadium stands as one of the most significant infrastructure achievements in the history of post-Independence Bengal. Commissioned for the 1975 World Table Tennis Championship under an extraordinary nine-month deadline, J.C. Chakraborty & Sons served as survey and civil engineering consultants alongside Bose Brothers.
The firm's founders completed the entire land survey and all structural drawings in four to five days. Pre-cast RCC portal frames were cast directly on the street between the Akashvani building and the State Assembly, then lifted into final position by cranes.
For the playing surface, international competition standards required American Pine and Mahogany flooring, precisely specified to meet the rebound-index requirements that protect athletes competing at world level.
The 12,000-seat stadium remains in active use today.
